Darxyde DVD review E-mail

Another poor excuse for...an Aussie Rollerblading film'...thats how it starts,
the Darxyde video. Well, I have to say that it is not poor, not at all. Instead it's a really good video.
I haven't heard that much of the Aussie rollerblading scene before I moved to Brisbane for 6 months to study. The exeptions were some random coverage in Be-Mag, Daily Bread and in VG20. But in these so rare sections, there has always been something special. Was it the spots? The skaters? The mentality? Maybe it was a mix of them all...I will never know. But let's cut the crap and get to it!

The video features some different sections:Intro - Chill music mixed with sick stunts from skaters I have no idea who they are. Ian Brown & Brock Midgely profiles - Everybody knows who Ian Brown is, the crazy Aussie who tried the infamous Leap Of Faith...and landed on his face. Well, he skates just as hard in this video I tell you. Nice and smooth tricks. Brock Midgely seems to take rollerblading one step further with sick disasters and sick tricks on drop ledges.

Slow Section - Most of the skating is filmed in night time and there is a good variety of skaters and tricks.

Fast Section - A nice mix of competition-street-park-night skating. You will love it!
Justin Buchanan & Marlon Mascarenhas profiles - The two masterminds behind this rolling flick has the last profile, if not the best ones. Justin is also known from before with appearances in some VG's, Daily Bread and Be-Mag. He still skates with great speed and has got mad steez! Marlon has a rock solid style and does some crazy ass long grinds. Mad sick! Great skating and a lot of variety of grinds and gaps.

Last Section - Here we get to see sweet skating from Skatebizs' own team rider, Tom 'Little-Tom' Bartley. This kid has got the style. He has probably got the sickest style in this vid, at least according to me. This other dude in Salomon also caught my attention. Sorry man, dunno your name but you skate sick! Keep it up!

Credits - When you thought this video was over...nono! The credits section is really long and features long lines, slams and some other funny stuff. Bonus - The Be-Roll of this video was just so great. Soooo many hammers! All the skaters really took it one step further. And the super long rail in the end? Shite...999 meters? Damn...Conclusion: All in all this video is a killer. Although some material is old, it's cool to see the progression of some of the skaters. Going bigger and getting more and
more style, that's cool. The filming is good, multiple angles and the editing is also crisp.

I went to the premiere of the Darxyde video right here in Bris Vegas not to long ago. What struck me was how big the scene is here in Australia. A lot of oldies showed up to support this rolling wonder. The premiere was held in a real cinema and everybody was chearing, whisteling, and clapping their hands. A total success!

So, now kids...pick up a copy of this Aussie Rollerblading film at www.skatebiz.com.au or pay them a visit in Brisbane when you are here.

Peace Klas Olsson
