Santee Filth DVD review E-mail

Just a quick look at the new vid from the Santee Crew “Santee Filth”. First things first, this is a vid to own. I will be re-watching this baby until it is scratched to death. It’s probably the first rolling video that has made me laugh more than once.

Right from the beginning you get the feeling that this is just a bunch of guys having fun and skating. It’s not put on like Jackass, these are besties making a vid together. The camera res is high, the editing minimal, if it’s stylish, you see it, if it ain’t, there’s no editing to cover it up. It’s raw, it’s fun, it’s honest.

An overview of the skating:
•    Damien Wilson is as fresh as ever, his section opens the vid and its strong. Keep an eye out for his last trick, it’s is smooth as butter, filled with other butter.

•    Rob Whitcomb is too solid. I hadn’t even rated him before this vid, but his section is like a tutorial on smooth destruction.

•    Lyle Shivak is insane. Watch it. He’s been around longer than Jesus and he’s still dropping some of the biggest hammers on film. The Santee Crew skate a down rail that looks like people could base jump from the top. It’s massive. Shivak rides it like he’s just passing the time between hitting up real bigger rails.

•    Nick Wood kills everything. He laces a topsoul on the most heinous kink built, back savs up a 12 stair ledge, and generally finds other monster rails to annihilate.

More than anything, the vid is like 80 Dustin Latimer’s with penchants for playing with dead animals. If you remember nothing else from this vid, you will at least walk away with the thoughts “Man these guys are disgusting” and “I would have never thought of skating that obstacle even on an 8 hour crack binge.” This vid has more creative tricks than any DVD ever. And not the boring “Wow, you skated a slackline, your medal is in the post” type, the “Dude, why would you do that on there? If you had missed it you’d be gimped out Christopher Reeves style” type of creative skating.

The Best Bit:
•    The montages have some of the most epic clips on the vid, they seriously just pop out of nowhere. I won’t give it away, but at one point there is one of the smoothest tech grinds ever laced on a rail. Ever ever. I’ll give you a hint, it starts with “A” and ends in “LLYOOP NEGATIVE MISFIT”. On a beast of a rail.

The Worst Bit:
•    Some of their shenanigans involve using mouse traps on their bodies. Think “Damien Wilson’s pasty ass” and “Big welt from mouse trap”.

I can’t even name some of the best tricks in this vid, you’ll just have to grab it. Or roll someone that has it. I dunno. This vid is what skating is all about. Get it. Now.
