New skatepark at new farm??.. E-mail

Some information has been released to Skatebiz that a newly acquired piece of land under the Story bridge on the Valley / New farm side is being considered by council to be a new site for a park and receation area, which could possibly be a new skate complex.

This is the info we have so far:

  • The Howard Smith Wharves, which were acquired from the State Government through a land swap that cost Council about $3.6 million.
  • The total area of the park is 3.31 hectares.
  • The Howard Smith Wharves site will be developed into a major riverside park, containing public recreation land and commercial facilities.
  • The first stage consists of preliminary work, including demolition of a number of minor buildings, site rehabilitation and the stabilisation of the adjoining cliff. This work is valued at about $1.3 million.

Dont leave this up to the council to decide! You can get your voice heard, there is already a forum discussion on the Brisbane city council website on how this land and money should be spent.

If you follow the link below and read the discussion you will see someone has already started a debate regarding this. What we want is you the skaters of Brisbane to get on this forum and have your say and express your voice. Please keep it sensible (remember this is city council). From our insider information the more people who get on this and express there opinion the more reason and influenece this will have on a council meeting that will take place in a few weeks.
