Capalaba Latemeets Kick Off Like and 80-Year-Old in a Marathon

Two seconds after arrival, rain was making the first weekly Capalaba Latemeet into a LameMeet. (No he didn’t.) (Yes he did.) But the trickling water was being matched by the arrival of skaters for what eventuated into a killer turn up.

For a good 5 seconds the bowl got carved by a few of the best like Mark Stamer, Aaron Crowther and Ben Granero, while the rest of the skaters took to the down-ledge, and then the usual rollerblader bumming around took over as the rain started to pick up. The night seemed to look as regrettable as a drunken tryst with Oprah until paradigm-shifting grommet Sam Bradley started cess-sliding onto grinds on the wet concrete. What followed was one of the most fun and childish cess-slide rampages ever. Everyone got into it and turned a washed out lame-fest into a washed out not-so-lame fest.

The rain blew, but it was a sick effort for everyone to come out and be in it. Thanks to all of the guys that drove in from way off to try and kick off this weekly event, and thanks to all of the local kids for hanging around for the sake of it.

I’m soaked like hell, which is totally sweet for my continuing cold, but it was mucho worthwhile. It could only be better if a certain new skateshop was open late enough for us all to buy replacement bearings as ours are now munted. Slack Capalaba Skatebiz, slack.

Keep it hyphy kids, see you all next Wednesday.
Hopefully Matt will learn how to check the weather forecasts before then.

Peace out foo’ (That’s how you say fool when you’re street like me)
Ray

p.s. If anyone wants to hear about non-skatemeet related sessions, message us on the wheelieshoes myspace (www.myspace.com/wheelieshoes) or join the facebook group Brisbane Rollers, or write your number in the Coorparoo toilets with a felt marker. I check all three.
