WHEELIESHOES SKATEMEET #ONE

It was a milestone. An event. A beginning of a new era!

A Queensland skatemeet Where people said they would rock up at 11am And DID.

Until now it was unheard of for rollerbladers to gather in such numbers and at the agreed upon time.  I arrived at Ferny park to sweep the place, and ROLLERS WERE ALREADY THERE. I almost had a heart attack, but my breakfast of orange juice and ketamine kept me pretty mellow.

The park was off-tap as Velvet Couch's stereo pumped some hyphy baby-making beats. All the skaters got up and had a few runs, it was all really laid back, but everyone got involved.

Everyone came. Like, everyone everyone. And it wasn't like regular skates where we see who can sit and smoke and whine about hangovers for the longest, people skated. Everyone skated. Even Skatebiz team skater Tom Bartley laying down the most solid grinds on every part of the park didn't stop all the young rollers getting their crunk on. All the kids were even hitting the down ledges and down rail. It was great to see the young talent ripping It up.  Dave Russel was cruising around the park with style, Boz was misfiting everything he could see, and a heap of guys were jamming the flat ledge lacing trick after trick.

It took a dozen whacks to the ribs and a clean hit to the nuts, but after the rail had finished pummelling Glynn, he finally grabbed his makio, and stuck the fakie landing on the down rail, taking home a ROLLA tshirt, in exchange for not being able to have kids. Ever.

To finish off, we headed up to the long mellow rails of Ferny Hills. By then, the pack had thinned, as people needed to go home and download Family guy episodes. About 30 intrepid adventures stuck in though. And the crunk kept flowing. It didn't take much for a few one young roller to walk away with a Velvet Couch tee, just a Soul to back unity and a gash from ass to shoulder. No biggie.

And then:

Full cab true-mizou to fakie top-soyale.

Tom Bartley hammered that down on the Ferny Hills rail.

Am I fo reals? You ask.

I don't front. I answer.

Awesomo Trick. Awesomo Day. Awesomo Queensland Rolling.

Thanks to the mad hatters at SKATEBIZ, VELVET COUCH and ROLLA MAG.

Without your generosity and support, this would have never gone down.

And thanks to all the rollers who came. The older guys who ditched work to come. And the younger guys who didn't know what to expect, but came and represented anyway.

Finally, thanks to all the maddog's like Wheelie Shoes own Ben, Taters, Kirby, and Regions David, David, Russel, who gave up most of their skating time to capture footage of this historic event.
